“One special lady, Dr. Kay Crawford, loved dance and believed in drill teams way back in the 1930s. Kaye was like a second mom to many! She was the founder of Miss Dance Drill Team Texas with a vision that she called "The Art of Drill Team." She did it all — with performance groups that traveled the world. May her legacy live on...through ‘the dance’!”
"Kay was my mentor through my first years as a director in the 1970s — until the day she died in 2001. She would sit with me for hours on the phone and talk me through many ideas that I had as a new educator. I hope that all the directors have someone who has been in their shoes that they can look to for helpful guidance and useful advice as mentors! Kay not only gave me her expert knowledge, she helped me through the early years of raising my son, Chance. One of the hardest decisions of my career was leaving directing. I loved the opportunity to see my students grow in dance and as individuals. I knew Chance would miss the dance family, he had grown up with, so that is why, at 38, he takes all the candid pictures at all the competitions!"
“Better Together!” MDDTTexas has been a part of my life since 1976, and I will be forever grateful to Kay for allowing me to carry on her legacy since 1996.
Dance Surge Dance Camp was designed to be different, based on Kay Crawford's mentoring. This camp provides mentors who work with officers to develop strategies to assist them in working with their director and team. In turn, the team experiences skill development, leadership, and strength.
The mentors are former directors who provide the same Kay-style support that I had with Kay! The two companies unite together to provide the training and ‘the dance’!"
